Moonless with Milky Way
Moonless with no Milky Way
Moonlit
Welcome to the night sky calendar! You will find dates below which will help you determine whether you will be here during a good date range for night photography in the area. If you are here during any of the moonless date ranges, we would highly recommend a night tour. Due to the minimal amounts of light pollution in the area and the beautiful subject matter, this corner of Utah is highly sought after from photographers all around the world.
We often get questions if it is worth a night tour during the date ranges without the milky way. The answer to that is an absolute yes. We get a massive blanket of stars and we’ve heard it over and over again that this tour was the highlight of their trip to the West, even from tours without the milky way.
We also get questions about whether a night tour is worth if visiting during a “moonlit” date range. The answer to that is NO. The light from the moon casts light onto the features of the park that looks much like mid-day lighting, which is not conducive to creating the “WOW” images we strive to help people capture. In addition, the bright light from the moon also diminishes the ability to see and/or capture many of the stars in the sky.
