OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

EXTENSIVE DETAILS

MEETING TIME: 2:00pm

MEETING LOCATION: Olympic inn & SUITES port angeles (1510 E Front St, Port Angeles, WA 98362)

LODGING:

  • First night: Olympic Inn and Suites - Port Angeles, WA

  • Second and third nights: Forks Motel - Forks, WA

FOOD: During this workshop we will be doing a combination of going out to eat at restaurants and getting food from a grocery store so we can have nourishment needs with us. On our first day we will start by visiting the grocery store before we head into the park to do a round of food shopping. I will have a large cooler, and we’ll be able to put what we need in there. Once we get into the park, its a bit of a drive to get out into the towns that have provisions, so we’ll want to have some with us for certain days so we don’t have to burn up valuable photography time. The towns that we are based out of for lodging, have both grocery stores and restaurants.

WEATHER in july/august:

Depending on elevations and location, temperatures tend to be mild to warm, but can still vary drastically by at least 10 degrees. Rain is always a possibility and hikers need to always be prepared for thunderstorms, especially in the higher elevations. Despite sunny conditions, fog can persist along the coastal strip and inhibit visibility. Always check the current weather forecast, trail conditions and campground status before visiting. On our first day, where we are up on Hurricane Ridge, which is the mountains, average temperatures are hi’s in the the low 50’s with the lows being close to freezing temps. We will be shooting there in the afternoon through sunset, so will be there during the warmer temperature range. The remaining days we will be down closer to sea level. Average temperatures are typically mid-70’s as the high, and low 50’s for the low.
